HARTHAL-A POLITICAL WEAPON ?

HARTHAL – CAN WE AFFORD TO LOSE TIME & MONEY & LIFE-
Mr. J B Koshy the Chairman of the Human Rights Commission has rightly commented on the occurrence of HARTHAL in our life almost on a chartered fashion.  Of late, we have seen that the political leaders are not concerned with the heavy damages it causes to the State’s Exchequer. We have elected representatives both in the Parliament and in the State assembly to look after the problems of the people living in their respective districts or areas they represent. But instead of bringing these issues to the assembly/parliament and sorting out the problems on priority basis and arriving at an amicable solution , it is observed that they enter into arguments and counter arguments and finally disperse without any fruitful result. These MLAs/MPs are unable to decide the issues in a democratic approach, but resort to violent methods resulting in chaos during the Assembly/Parliament sessions.
Unable to discuss and come out with an agreed solution, these MLAs/MPs resort to HARTHAL by forcing the public to agitate and destroy public properties and even endangering life of the people. Definitely the Harthal is a damaging factor in the life of the people and has to be called off from the Political “Vedanda”. All our 140 MLAS and 20 MPs must be able to sort out the State’s problem in a sober way than this direct action outside the Assembly/Parliament houses. The inefficiency of the elected person in suggesting proper solutions by mutual discussion is proved in this type of uncontrolled public agitations. The leaders are unable to LEAD ?. Such situations are disastrous for any nation in its progress towards better economy and financial security of the country/state. Offensive methods of rectification are not the intended mission of a Democratic Governance.
Let us all be sober in our thoughts, attitudes and action for the benefit of the larger sections of the society, so that they may live in peace without fear of the unexpected and untimely end of their lives & belongings….

ENVIORNMENTAL POLLUTION

                                           ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION
The state o Kerala being a narrow strip of land at the southern end of the Indian peninsula has many built-in problems. Though known as the “God’s own country”, by virtue of its natural beauty and geographical conditions, Kerala is facing lot of ecological & environmental damages.
The life style of the people of Kerala is different from the living pattern of the people of the other states in India. Here we maintain a spread out living without forming a cluster or village lifestyle. Therefore we do not have any unoccupied area for any commercial development or any industrial unit. But in other states the living pattern is quite different and vast areas of land are available for any commercial business or for setting up factory buildings or industrial units without affecting the freedom of the people for a secured living from pollution or other environmental damages. Whereas, we people in Kerala staying throughout the length and breadth of the small state, face problems of polluted environment for want of adequate “breathing space”. Kerala is a consumable state and we cannot afford to have vast industrial growth for the reasons mentioned above.
To bring us to limelight in the matter of economical and social growth, we have to develop our human resources to the maximum level of excellence in the scientific and other higher educational fields, so as to cope up with others and to improve our social and economic status. Industrial units in our heavily populated areas will cause dangerous situations in the life of the people and the surrounding water resources and lakes, thereby affecting the public health and destruction of the natural geographical and topographical features.

Of late, the discipline and obedience to law and order amongst us has been eroding fast, and we are prone to take shortcuts in whatever job we do in private or public life. Such being our mind set as of now, any attempt to launch industrial units in our state will be suicidal in the present situation. The existing industrial complexes are still facing problems in maintaining the environmental protection in the desired manner as envisaged by the authorities. Discharging of waste water and poisonous gas etc is still unchecked and the local inhabitants are suffering on this account.
A very serious thought is necessary to protect our people from man-made calamities.

EMERGING KERALA

                       EMERGING  KERALA- GOD'S OWN COUNTRY-

“Emerging” is an attractive word and the speed of emergence and onward marching with equal pace with others in the run must be  followed with resonance  in all the activities at different levels of operations .  For a state like Kerala, with limited resources  both immovable and movable assets, it is of great importance  in such enterprises to monitor systematically  the sequence of  operation of different stages involved in the projected programs.

Human Resource potential is very high in our state and all are equally competent to master any trade or business as an individual. But when it comes to a Group activity where everybody has to share his/her responsible participation, in the common interests, things go wrong for want of cooperation and synchronized working at different levels of operation. Mutual respect and appreciation lacks in many cases resulting in slowing down of the projected progress. The natural tendency is to prompt others to work, than ourselves doing our part of the job.

Our past experiences show that we were irregular in the timely maintenance of our assets, with a scheduled program. The industrial units and other installations suffered due to failure of machinery and heavy monetary loss caused to the government. Lack of personal touch and application of mind in discharging our duties at the right time, caused damage to the industrial units and other government and public sector undertakings. The “ mind set” of we people in Kerala is already taken a “permanent set”. Now it is difficult to rewind or remold into a better frame of mind for committed service. The assets handed over to us by our predecessors are still with us only because they maintained them meticulously. But on our part we neglected their upkeep and  sustained loss “beyond local repair”.

Trade unions and other organizations were intended to uphold the interests of the management & workers so as to
create a peaceful atmosphere in the industrial units or departments.  But of late, the whole system of management
both in the employer and employees relation has been strained resulting in break down of the enterprising sectors.
The unsocial elements exploited this situation and disrupted the functioning of the industry/department resulting
in closing down of many industries.

Therefore, before we embark on introducing international participation in major projects in kerala, we have to  be
doubly careful in launching such  commercially viable program. Absolute dedication and determination at all levels
of management & employees are essential to accomplish the tasks before us. That being so, our outlook has to
undergo drastic changes  to handle heavy projects with foreign collaboration. There should not be cessation of the
progress of work at any stage, which may cause desertion of the project en route! There should be resonance  in the
thoughts and action of the political parties without any rivalry amongst them or  with any “Strings attached”.

In that case we will Emerge in a big way!!
