WORDS ARE MIGHTIER THAN SWORD
I have
written this saying “The Words are mightier than the Swords”- even more
dangerous than writing pen” in one of my previous blogs. In the context of the
recent controversial statements of the Director General of Police in charge of
the jail, we may have to analyze the relevance of the above saying in a broader
perspective. The statements made by the DGP in public were later withdrawn when
situations were found not favourable. An officer of his calibre in the IPS cadre
could not have casually remarked about the standard of the discipline of the prisoners
and the maintenance of the Rules & Regulations of the Jail, by the Jail
superintendent and his staff. He is also reported to have stated that external
forces were at work in creating a commotion inside the Jail compound through
political influence…
The
relative or anybody who wants to visit a prisoner in jail can do so with the
permission of the Authorities. But it must be in the Jail and not outside the
jail premises.. Now everybody knows as to what happened in the instant case
narrated by the DGP. Now if he says, such visits are authorized, why should he
reverse his statement later?
In my
ordinary prudence of logical thinking, I feel that a serious mistake is made by
the officer in his utterances in public. If we “Think twice before” we act or speak,
such serious errors might not have occurred According to the latest scientific
inventions, WORDS SPOKEN cannot be destroyed by any means, but can be retrieved
later from the air, through electronic gadgets! Efforts are afoot by scientist
to capture the sound waves, moving in Sinusoidal waves /curves in the atmosphere, for recording
the words spoken by great scientists and philosophers of the ancient past. Even
WRITINGS are not permanent records as it can be spoiled or destroyed later.
Therefore one has to be very careful and alert in using the TONGUE -THE
DANGEROUS WEAPON”
